COURSE
INTRODUCTION
Mission
Critical is defined as any factor of a system that is vital to business
operation. Depending on the nature of business, power supply, internet
connection, water supply etc. could be one of the “mission critical” factors
that if interrupted or failed, will cause catastrophic impact on business
operations.
Service
reliability and power quality have developed into growing concerns for many
industrial facilities, especially with the increasing sensitivity of electronic
equipment and automated controls. Although utilities do their best to supply
reliable, high-quality power, periodic sags and surges on utility lines will
continue to be a fact of life. Even a brief shutdown of a process equipment can
result in large additional production costs.
Many
types of electronic equipment are sensitive to voltage anomalies. Most of this
equipment is used in applications that are critical to overall process, which
can lead to very expensive downtime when voltage anomalies occur. Very few
utilities, anywhere in the world, escape any type of voltage anomalies. Even
those with total underground systems in a small geographic area such as
Singapore suffers from voltage sags.
Voltage
anomalies may cause a need for replacement, repair, reprogramming, rerun or
even a total defect of the program in progress. Voltage anomalies occurrence
will result in lost of time as well as money and they can be a significant
problem for large commercial customers as well. All type of anomalies can be
completely eradicated with the proper power conditioning equipment, properly
installed, operated and maintained. Most of these events can be eliminated
through the correct use of relatively inexpensive protection equipment.
BENEFITS OF ATTENDING
ü Greater
depth of understanding on UPS, power system and stability for more efficient
operation and maintenance
